Vs Tuesday: One Song! Two Bands! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Midnight Oil.
Australian rock band Midnight Oil may have faced some adversity among critics from their formation in 1972 to 2002 they sold an incredible 12 million records, something which deserves attention. Indeed it took until 1987 and their sixth studio record “Diesel and Dust” before they acquired any form of critical acclaim. Recorded at Albert Studios, Sydney, Australia it was hailed as ground breaking thanks to powerful, dynamic and passionate songs like “Beds are Burning” with a driving hard rock sound and intense live performances. Using that attention for causes close to their heart, they put the spotlight on anti-nuclear, environmentalist and indigenous causes.
So to today’s head to head. In the Red Corner we have Leo Moracchioli from Frog Leap Studios in Norway who is at his best covering tracks like this as part of his weekly series. We’re looking forward to the Multi-instrumentalist returning to the live arena with Toska guitarist Rabea Massaad. In the Blue Corner, we have the Dani Filth (yes that Dani Filth, as in Cradle of Filth) fronted Devilment, who recorded the track in sessions for their 2014 debut “The Great And Secret Show” with a guest appearance from Bam Margera. It may sound a little rough around the edges but the follow up “II: The Mephisto Waltzes” is a mighty fine piece of work. Who Wins? You decide!
