Riff Police! Pull Over! #131: Necrophobic Vs Slayer!

2020 is a year that has seen many things but a new album in “Dawn of the Damned” by Swedish Blackened Death Metallers Necrophobic has to go down as one of the highlights. Their 31 year career to date may have only seen nine studio records but the re-ignition of the partnership of guitarists Sebastian Ramsted and Johan Bergebäck after five years was a mouth watering prospect which they delivered upon.

As a band who take their name from the lyrics of the Slayer classic “Raining Blood” from their seminal album “Reign In Blood“, it should be no surprise that a little bit of that Slayer influence was going to creep into their material at some point, more of a matter of when rather than if. The track in question is the album closer “Devil’s Spawn Attack“, a rager in its own right but which has that distinctive similarity to the aforementioned cut. Who’d have guessed it?
