The Black Map #110: Sphinx from London!

Originating in Faro, Portugal and relocating to London, Progressive Death Metal quartet Sphinx are a beast of Pacific Rim status. The quartet debuted “Immortal” in 2017, an album not only strongly influenced by old school technical Death Metal acts but also by a love of videogames, fables and paying attention to the finest of details so that every listen brings something new to appreciate. A trio of singles since have delivered Melodic Brutality with Progressive touches, with each one striving to be that little bit more than the last. That earned them a support slot with Malevolent Creation as they went on a run across Ukraine, Moldova and Romania. Latest single “The Battle of Aljubarrota” tells of a Holy War against 30,000 men in Lithuania with blood running down the streets.
