Rabidfest 2022: Breaking Down The Bands #11: Desert Storm!
The Devolution Magazine Stage at The Bullingdon in Oxford will be graced by no less than 20 bands over the weekend of 5th and 6th November 2022 as crowds go feral for two days of wall to wall Metal of the finest order during this years incarnation of Rabidfest. The headliners in Discharge and Divine Chaos speak for themselves but who else will be taking to the stage and commanding the seas of sweaty bodies to join the mosh pit, to headbang or to raise a pint of the finest brew as they rip another solo or breakdown out from the sky? If you want the answer to that then you’ve come to the right place as we take a minute to talk about the almighty Desert Storm!
Hailing from Oxford, Rabidfest will be a home town throwdown for the Progressive Sludge Metal quintet as they celebrate their now two year old fifth studio record “Omens” in style. For those unfamiliar with their reign, they are a band who have been around for 15 years having formed in early 2007 and in their time have shared stages with everyone from Crowbar to Raging Speedhorn while also being regulars on the European Festival circuit with trips to Germany, Belgium and Holland to name but a few. When it comes to fans favourites, cuts like “Queen Reefer” from 2015’s “Omniscient” or “Gearhead” from 2018’s “Sentinels” are a great place to start although personally, you can’t go wrong with the crushing riffs of “Black Bile” which combines their love of Stoner Metal with Southern Rock while chasing it down with a swagger. Vocalist Matt Ryan will tell you a fine tale as the band produce raw and dark sounds with hints of melody as they take the long hard road out of hell…
