Rabidfest 2022: Breaking Down The Bands #14: Harbinger!

As our countdown and introductions to the bands playing this years incarnation of Rabidfest continues we’re reaching the big guns. The bands who arguably you’d pay the entrance fee to see alone with the rest of the festival a huge bonus, even if, like Pokémon you have to catch ’em all. Rabidfest will take place at The Bullingdon in the heart of Oxford over the weekend of 5th & 6th November with no less than 20 bands taking to the stage to fight it out and see who can get the most fans in the mosh pit, the most beer spilled and the most sweat drained and all you have to do is by a ticket…

…at this point there should really be no introduction necessary but for those not indoctrinated, Harbinger are a London based quintet offering a plethora of Technical Deathcore and Death Metal riffs soaked in groove and untamed heaviness for your listening pleasure. We first had the pleasure of witnessing them with original vocalist Tom Gardner five years ago, sharing a stage with Loathe and being one of the very first live reviews to grace these pages. That was one of the shows around their EP “Human Dust” and since then they’ve dropped a debut album in “Compelled to Suffer” and toured all over Europe before being joined by new vocalist Dylan Alves for EP “A Letter To Anguish“. That is whirlwind of percussive battery and fretboard smouldering action which has seen a UK headlining tour with Dreameater and an appearance at Tech-Fest on route to join Oxfords finest. If you’re into the vital statistics then “Prayer Of Deliverance” “The Awakening” and “Hate File” have a collective 177k of Spotify streams so they’re obvious recommendations of places to start, but like Malevolence before them we say this… catch them here and now before they head over to the US never to return because they’re on the cusp of being that band that you didn’t see and wish you had. If you don’t, they’ll be ripping up the road with the likes of Machine Head and Trivium and then you’re left having to get yourself to Brixton Academy to see them.
