The Black Map #265: Veridian from Reading! (Reading Rising IV Edition)
Earlier this week the addition of Reading Alternative Rock bands Veridian and Our Fate to an already stacked line-up for this years incarnation of Reading Rising Festival found us doing a double take like say… what?! How have they achieved that?! There are officially 62 days before 18th November when the one dayer will take place for the fourth time at The Facebar in Reading and with 8 of 12 bands announced as well as an after party, it’s looking like the hottest ticket in town. Here’s the line up so far…
Our Hollow Our Home (headliner)
Confessions Of A Traitor (headliner)
Waterlines
NervEndings
InAir
Crushed By Waves
Veridian
Our Fate
Add to that little lot 4 more bands to be announced and an after party DJ set from Our Fate guitarist Finn Panhaleux running until 2am!
To use a well known phrase, it’s like for some “lies, damned lies, and statistics” to bolster our argument as to why you should grab a ticket for Reading Rising IV and witness Reading Alternative Rock outfit Veridian in action. Let’s start with the simple fact that the band have surpassed a million Spotify streams alone in the seven years since their debut single “Refuse To Feel” introduced them to the masses in 2016. That’s no mean feat but with rave reviews from the likes of Alex Baker on Kerrang! Radio, it’s impressive enough to catch the eye like the glint of a diamond in the bright sunshine. Since then the band have of course released 2017 EP “40826D” and 2020 EP “NoVella” as well as a string of singles, with their last original one “Shine” actually surfacing in March 2022 and with fans in Sydney and Tokyo you might have thought they’d be considering going in search of new horizons and taking their music to the masses. However, strange things happen and it’s actually been a seemingly quiet year for the quintet who have maintained radio silence for the past five months while working on new material. Prior to that a run of shows in March with Kite Thief as well as contributing a cover of “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt to the Revival Recordings compilation “It’s All Grunge“ have been highlights. So here’s hoping that one makes the set at Reading Rising because the big sing-a-long chorus will be a special moment, phone lights at the ready…
