Rabidfest 2023: Breaking Down The Bands #24: Pryma!

Last week we made a fatal mistake in declaring an end to our “Breaking Down The Bands” series for the fifth anniversary incarnation of Oxford’s biggest Metal Weekender Rabidfest. As it turns out, there is one last change in the line up before this years event takes place – over the weekend of the 4th and 5th November at The Bullingdon – as due to the birth of a child, Imperium have stepped aside and Pryma are welcomed to replace them. We wish them well and are of no doubt that 2024 will see Imperium in the first wave of bands to take to the stage. Ignoring our numbering sequence, there will be no less and no more than 20 bands taking to the Devolution Magazine sponsored main stage across two days with all the profits going to the The Sophie Lancaster Foundation and in case you missed it, here’s the line up in full…

Saturday:

Blaze Bayley (headliner)
Absolva
Ward XVI
Mortishead
Sworn Amongst
LestWeForget
Pryma
Reveller
Second Hour
Stone Soup

Sunday:

Bound In Fear (headliner)
Cage Fight
Shoot To Kill
Tribe Of Ghosts
Gutlocker
From Her Ashes
Draconian Reign
Depolarize
Fetus Destruction
Maelstrom

So who the f*** are Pryma and why should you get yourself a golden ticket for Rabidfest to see them? Well… having survived playing the Jagermeister stage at Bloodstock earlier this summer the four piece Metal act who hail from Canterbury have been making a ruckus since 2020. After a run of well received singles, including fans favourite “Righteous Liar” which has almost reached 14k of Spotify Streams, 25th November 2022 saw them drop debut EP “Uncaged“. We know what your thinking. “Freaky Saturday Afternoon” at The Bullingdon doesn’t have the same ring to it as “Freaky Friday Night” but the cut is a banger so we hope that it’s in the set. Walt Disney’s layers were sharpening their pencils but Pyrma have nothing to worry about. A riff orientated sound driven by a thunderous percussive sound and scream edged clean vocals that seduce has been their stock in trade for the past four years and with the sublime animated video for September single “My Cold Shadow” earning them a few new friends, expect the mosh pit to get rowdy as the boys in Absolva getting involved. The debate after the set may be whether they consider themselves Alternative or Traditional Heavy Metal in sound but the real question is whether or not they will be giving 10th November releasing new single “Survival” an airing to the Rabidfest crowd!

We’re proud to be a Media Partner of Rabidfest again this year alongside Red Death Media, Moomin Merchandise, Metalplanetmusic, Moshville Times, GraphicsFix, Unearthed Music and main stage sponsor Devolution Magazine. The Festival is all for charity and this year the profits will be going to the The Sophie Lancaster Foundation!
