Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Drink.
You’d have to go a few thousand miles to find someone who didn’t know who AC/DC were or at least be able to recognise one of their cuts but when it came to their seventh seminal album there must have been some nerves with Brian Johnson replacing the larger than life Bon Scott after his tragic death. Nobody could have imagined in their wildest dreams that the band would have created a diamond from the sheer pressure that they were under and that’s probably why Magnetic Eye Records have picked up “Back In Black” for their Redux cover album series. That features hand-picked classic albums from across the history of rock and metal like “Meantime” by Helmet, “Dirt” by Alice In Chains and “The Wall” by Pink Floyd, all re-imagined in their entirety from start to finish courtesy of bands we know and love so this makes for a great addition.
In the Red Corner we have Whores featuring Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher for their take on “Have A Drink On Me” from the album which celebrated its 41st Anniversary in 2021. The Redux version features the likes of Early Man and Red Fang along with numerous guest appearances including Accept and UDO vocalist Udo Dirkschneider, so this rendition is in great company. In the Blue Corner we have the My Ruin take on the classic that appeared on the 30th Anniversary tribute that Metal Hammer Magazine put together in July 2010. Recorded and mixed at Entourage Studios in North Hollywood, California with Josh Lynch where they spent a few months recording the brilliance that is their sixth album “Ghosts and Good Stories” it joins previous covers of everyone from Black Flag to Nick Cave to Rick Derringer. Who wins? You decide!
